The Copper Club Scholarship Fund is accepting candidates for the 2015-16 school year. The primary purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarships to college or university students who are majoring in mining, metallurgy, metallurgical engineering, geology or other fields related to the production of copper or copper products. Under the scholarship program, we will award $10,000 to students entering either their junior or senior years.
We would be pleased to have your institution participate in the program by recommending one student who shows exceptional merit and demonstrates financial need, in the opinion of the department. Academic merit is demonstrated by exceptional grades and financial need demonstrated by the necessity for the student to maintain a job while simultaneously attending school. Please note: only one student can be recommended from each university, regardless of department of study.
Once you have chosen an applicant, the student is required to submit these items to the Fund:
- Application Entry Form
- Pre University Transcript (GPA required)
- University Transcript (major, minor, GPA and class ranking required)
- Three Letters of Recommendation
- Autobiography with Photograph (financial need statement required)
- Essay on the Importance of Copper Metallurgy in the 21st Century (1,200 words or less)
Submission of candidates and their materials is due by March 2, 2015, and the Award Committee decision and announcement will be made by the end of April.
A committee of the Fund’s Board of Directors will then review the submissions and recommend ultimate recipients to the Board, which then makes the final decision.
The Copper Club is delighted to be a part of this very important effort and looks forward to your response. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
Very truly yours,
Andrew G. Kireta Sr.
