Title: Senior Project Geologist
Location: Reno, Nevada (NV)

Description: The Senior Project Geologist will be in charge of advancing LAC’s understanding of our deposit, using a technology-driven approach to developing our resource. You will be managing contractors and development partners, as well as supporting LAC’s engineering team. You will be a key contributor to the team’s technical and business development efforts. Your work will help guide the team’s decision making on future drilling programs, flowsheet design, pilot testing approach, and selecting technology options. We would look to you for way to turn our current understanding of the deposit to best-in-class model, using the latest techniques in data collection, analysis and modeling. You would be expected to spend time in the field, engaged in on site field evaluations including geologic mapping, drilling, analyzing core data, logging core data and/or leading drilling programs. Depending on your skill set, you may build the geo-models in-house, or work with relevant contractors to advance your mandate. The role will be stationed in Nevada.

Minimum Qualifications: 

-Bachelor of Science degree in geology, geological engineering, or related discipline.
-Strong foundation in classic geology, with exposure to advanced/experimental data collection and analytical techniques, e.g. machine learning and big data.
-Minimum 5 years of experience in mineral exploration, development and/or production.
-Experience in development and management of geoscientific databases for mineral exploration, development and/or production; running activities from drilling programs and logging core data, to the use of machine learning and ‘big data’ techniques.
-Familiarity with a variety of geophysical and geochemistry techniques.
-Experience with project management, e.g. in green-field exploration programs, feasibility study drill campaigns.
-Strong understanding of NI 43-101 and CIM Standards and Guidelines, with a rigorous approach to QA/QC.
-Ability to “think outside the box” and stretch yourself with ambitious, far-reaching goals.
-Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to bring out the best in others.
-P.Geo. / P.Eng. or willingness to gain designation

Preferred Qualifications:

-MSc and/or PhD in geology, geological engineering or related discipline.
-Direct experience managing a project that evolved from desk-top studies to advanced economic studies, i.e., preliminary economic assessment, pre-feasibility study and feasibility study.
-Experience with clay hosted deposits and/or lithium deposits.

-Reviewing, updating, and maintaining the geology database, using advanced techniques to refine and/or expand the deposit resource potential.
-Managing infill, step out, and exploration drill programs.
-Leading programs in geology mapping, core logging, and analysis.
-Advancing the geology model through cutting edge data collation, analysis and modelling technique, e.g. including machine learning and big data approaches to solving challenges.
-Engaging with, and managing, multi-disciplinary consultants/contractors including drilling contractors, resource consultants, geotechnical specialists, mineral processing engineers and environmental consultants.
-Interfacing with the process engineering team to support the optimal design and development of mineral processing flowsheet.
-Supporting the mining engineering team to evaluate and select appropriate mining methods.
-Supporting the environmental team’s development and permitting efforts.
-Preparing and presenting project updates to LAC management/board and other stakeholders as required.
-Maintaining ‘best in class’ QA/QC protocols.
-Developing and maintaining relationships with universities aimed at implementing advanced degree research projects at Kings Valley.
-Representing LAC in relevant public arenas and professional organizations
