The Crustal Geophysics and Geochemistry Science Center (CGGSC) has an open position for a capable, established research scientist able to join and enhance our team of remote sensing experts. The work conducted by CGGSC addresses intra-Bureau, inter-departmental, and international programs. The primary mission of CGGSC is to apply its expertise in remote sensing, geophysics, environmental and isotope geochemistry, analytical chemistry, and geology to interdisciplinary projects through accurate, dependable, and impartial scientific research. This research is applied to mineral-environmental, mineral-resource, geology and health, geologic and environmental hazards, and other scientific issues in a manner that is useful for formulating governmental policy and decision-making at appropriate levels of local, State, and Federal government. The CGGSC invites applications for a permanent Research Geophysicist/Physical Scientist/Geologist position that is supported by the Mineral Resources Program. We seek candidates that combine a broad expertise in remote sensing, with an emphasis on the use of imaging spectroscopy techniques (laboratory, theoretical and field), that may be applied to such topics as mineral resource and disaster/hazard assessments, geoenvironmental and planetary investigations, and human health issues.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated publication record and will have developed, or show the potential to devise and lead a nationally recognized research program in earth sciences.
