Current year-round* internship are available in Reno for Geographical Information Systems*.
The NV Energy Internship program is designed to ensure that it will challenge students with meaningful work, expose them to a career in the energy industry, and help them transition from academics to the workforce.

The goal of our internship program is to give GIS students real world experience. Candidate must be a self-starter, flexible, a quick learner, highly motivated and a good team player. Accordingly, you must possess strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem solving and decision making skills.

Work as part of a team to provide analytical support to ensure reliability, availability, efficiency and functionality of all equipment, processes and projects
Assist in basic geography tasks of evaluation, problem solving, analysis, cartography and participate in installation and maintenance of servers, workstations and network infrastructure
Assist in basic mapping tasks of evaluation, problem solving, analysis, and planning to support power transmission and distribution, plant operations and/or maintenance
Assist with the editing and maintenance of spatial data and databases
Ensure the accuracy and completeness of digital data and maps
Comply with safety policy and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
Interface with engineering staff, plant site operations & maintenance groups, and other, personnel to ensure consistent, practical, and effective engineering solutions
Participate in special projects and committee assignments as requested
Data entry, sample collection, and preparation of applications and analytical reports using software’s such ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Microsoft office and Databases is required on a day to day basis

Minimum Qualifications: 

To be eligible for employment as an intern, a student must:
Submit a NV Energy Employment Application with resume/transcript attached and meet eligibility requirements
Have completed GEOG 405/605- GIS I: Geographic Information Systems and Science
ArcGIS, Microsoft Office and AutoCAD experience preferred
Demonstrates leadership abilities
Previous work experience is preferred, but not required
All students must provide transcripts and verification of college/university enrollment in order to begin or continue employment.

All students must be available to work the following schedule:

Summer: 20 – 40 hours per week

School Year: minimum of 12 up to a maximum of 20 hours per week

Education and Work Experience
Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelors of GIS Degree with a minimum accumulative GPA of 3.0. Must be a full time student with a minimum load of 12 units. Previous work experience is desired but not required.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office products and AutoCAD is preferred.

Equipment and Applications
PCs, Word processing, Spreadsheet and Database software

Work Environment and Physical Demands
General office environment No special physical demands required. May be required to travel to field locations and job sites and walk on uneven/unpaved ground.
