The Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Division of Water Resources is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Water Commissioner (Water Use Specialist). This is a non-classified, full-time position within the Division of Water Resources (Division) located in Carson City, Nevada.

This non-classified position serves at the will of the State Engineer. The position is eligible for the State of Nevada Public Employees Benefit Program (PEBP).

Key Responsibilities: 

This position is within the Hydrology Section of the Division of Water Resources. The Water Use Specialist is responsible for production of an annual statewide water use inventory. The position is also responsible for ensuring completion and accuracy of basin crop and pumpage inventories in cooperation with basin engineers and other staff. Additional responsibilities may include basin engineering duties, water use research, water use database maintenance, and other duties within the hydrology section as needed or directed. Field work will be necessary in support of basin resource inventories, meter compliance, and other related studies.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Requirements include graduation from a four-year accredited university or college in geology, hydrogeology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience to demonstrate the skills and abilities necessary for this position.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Applicants must possess excellent technical writing skills to complete the duties and responsibilities of the position. Strong communication skills are required to collaborate with technical staff and contribute effectively to the objectives of the Division. Applicants must be well-organized and self-motivated, and possess excellent computer skills. GIS skills and  knowledge of Nevada geography are desired.
