Description: American Assay Laboratories is one of the largest geochemical testing laboratories in the United States and has been operating in Sparks, NV for 30 years. We are a very high through-put facility, processing several thousands of samples per day. Most of our analyses are for the gold mines of northern Nevada and we receive samples from all over the world for various other analyses.
This is not a research based position, however it offers knowledge and experience of working in a commercial – industrial laboratory. Knowledge of safe laboratory practices is essential. Summers are our busiest time of the year, so we are open to working with students that may be returning to classes in the fall.
Minimum Qualifications: Chemistry courses and lab experience (can be from classes). We will do all necessary training in house as most of our procedures are in-house. Training would include handling hazardous materials (primarily acids and cyanide), various rock/soil/ore digestion methods including fire assay and cyanide leach for Au, and instrument analysis using ICP-OES and ICP-MS.
