The primary purpose of this role is to provide all necessary geologic information and guidance on ODOT projects. This includes develop, oversee, interpret, and report on geologic investigations and geologic hazards for transportation related projects in the exciting and complex geology of southwestern Oregon. Duties include emergency geologic hazard response, subsurface investigations, analysis, and design for infrastructure, modelling (slope stability, kinematic analysis, rockfall, etc.), quarry management, and more. Position will work as part of the geology group often in collaboration with geotechnical engineers. An essential function of the position will be to coordinate with project managers, maintenance personnel, construction group, planners, contractors, consulting firms, and other federal, state, county, and city agencies.

Duties & Responsibilities
Project Planning and Coordination
Plans and develops project goals and objectives, budgets, and defining the scope of each project.
Accompanies agency supervisors, engineers, and designers on field investigations to identify and evaluate geological concerns and recommend appropriate solutions.
Develop plans and specifications for material sources.
Reviews the work of Exploration Specialists for the completeness and conformance with applicable State and Federal regulations and guidelines.
Trains lower level geologists and exploration crews in the technical methods and requirements.
Directs drill crews in obtaining subsurface samples and in installation of geotechnical instrumentation.
Requests the materials laboratory to perform specific tests for material identifications and engineering properties.
Conducts statistical mapping of joints within rock masses and assesses rockfall potential, and makes recommendations for rock slope design and mitigation.
Geologic/geotechnical Mapping and Report Writing
Research geologic literature, publications, maps, well logs, aerial photos, and other historical data.
Analyzes geological data with computer methods to determine the depth and rate of landslide movement.
Write comprehensive final engineering geology reports and professionally seals taking full responsibility of work as a licensed Engineering Geologist in the State of Oregon through the Oregon State Board of Geologist Examiners.
Minimum Qualifications: A Registered Geologist (RG) license from the Oregon State Board of Geologist Examiners.
