Description: The Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology is seeking a motivated and technically inclined student to assist with document digitization and metadata creation in the summer, and database management, quality assurance, and web content creation in the fall. Possibility to extend into spring

Duties may include the following:
Summer:
• Data entry and QA in Mining District File and publications databases
• Scanning documents and large maps
• Helping with other projects/data entry as needed
Fall:
• Write scripts to transfer data from a variety of sources to a PostgreSQL database
• Create quality assurance scripts to ensure data integrity, and manually quality assure documents and metadata that cannot be automated
• Assist in the setup of a web-based digital content management system
• Enter data and correct errors in data as needed
• Scan documents and help with other projects as needed”
Qualifications: Must be detail oriented and quality conscious
• Must be able to type accurately
• Must have good organizational skills
• Must be a self-starter and be willing to work independently
• Must have experience with Excel
• Must have a good command of the English language
• Must have a desire to learn about digital collections management
• Must have some experience with scripting languages and a desire to learn more advanced programming techniques
• Must have some familiarity with relational database management systems
• Knowledge of relational database management systems and writing SQL
• Fluency with Python, R, or another scripting language
• Familiarity with programmatic data cleaning and manipulation
• Experience with web technologies and software deployment
• Experience with version management (github, svn)

Employment Type: Work-study eligibility preferred for Fall 2019, but willing to work with the right student. Transportation from UNR is necessary. Hours available are Tuesday–Friday, 8:00–4:00, Part-Time.
Hours:20-40
Salary: $12/hour, possibility of a raise
